How the program works
The Live Green Toronto Membership Card program is designed to connect environmentally conscience shoppers with Toronto businesses who are committed to building a cleaner, greener Toronto. As a requirement of the program, our retailers, service providers, and other eligible businesses provide an exclusive promotion, special offer and/or direct discount on an environmentally friendly product(s) and/or service(s) to registered Live Green Toronto Membership Cardholders. Since launching in November of 2010, approximately 16,000 members have registered for a card – and this number continues to grow each day!Why should I take part?
This program is a great way to attract new and loyal customers from across the Greater Toronto Area. Our members are eager to support Toronto businesses who share their commitment to a cleaner and healthier lifestyle.It's free to become a Live Green Toronto member business. In exchange, you'll receive a dedicated web page on livegreencard.ca that profiles your company and its offer, the location and hours of your store, and a web link back to your website. We'll even feature your logo, if you have one. Take a look at some of our member businesses to date.
By participating in this program you'll also build your great green brand. The City of Toronto is actively promoting the Live Green Toronto Membership Card program and its businesses through a combination of advertisements, newsletters, and the City's extensive network of community and stakeholder groups. We're on facebook, foursquare and twitter too!
Business members will also receive their own exclusive offers, like discounts to events, and invitations to workshops, breakfast seminars, and the Live Green Toronto Festival.
Is my business eligible?
We are actively recruiting new business members who are committed to supporting the environment. To be eligible, your business must be located (store, office or building) in the city of Toronto, and have accounts (tax and utility bills) in good standing with the City. Businesses allied with political parties, or those that do not adhere to the standards of the City's Non-Discrimination Policy and the Ontario Human Rights Code will not be considered.How does the approval process work?
To become an approved business member, your business must provide a City-approved exclusive promotion, special offer and/or direct discount on an environmentally friendly product(s) and/or service(s) to cardholders; complete the program application process; and sign and accept the program Terms and Conditions. The City reserves the right to refuse any business applicant who does not meet the program Terms and Conditions.What does my offer have to be?
Participating businesses must offer an exclusive promotion, offer or discount on an environmentally friendly product(s) and/or service(s) to Live Green Toronto Membership Cardholders. Businesses can also extend an offer that encourages customers to behave in a more environmentally friendly fashion (e.g. give a discount for bringing in your own takeout container).Examples of exclusive offers:
- X% off specific product(s) and/or service(s).
- $X off specific product(s) and/or service(s).
- Bring your own reusable bag/container/mug and save.
How do I get started?
Apply now. Live Green Toronto program staff will contact you to review your application and discuss your suitability for the program. If accepted, program staff will work with you to develop your exclusive offer.Marketing and promotional support
Our goal is to provide an easy-to-execute program that will drive traffic to your store, build your green brand and provide value to our membership cardholders. When you join the program, we will work with you to build your dedicated page – featuring your company profile, offer and logo – on livegreencard.ca. We'll also supply you with free in-store marketing materials, such as window clings, shelf wobblers and posters.
